There are a variety of different sized batteries for cordless drills and by size it is meant the voltage. The physical size usually does not differ too much. The most common of these is the 18V and a good quality cordless drill with an 18V battery is usually adequate for most drilling operations at home or at work. However there are a number of less common battery sizes used with cordless drills such as 14.4V, 24V and 36V The higher voltages really just offer better battery life and added power and control for drilling operations but not everyone needs a 36V drill and for most applications 18v may be adequate. So why would i buy a 36V model? Well generally 36V models are bought by professional builders and contractors for use on heavier applications such as masonary and concrete. There are other advantages of 36V cordless drills, one of whic is the greater batter endurance. You can achieve upto 2,000 charges with some 36V batteries so for those who are using their drill on a regular basis may want to consider a 36V model. There are some disadvantages to 36V models. Firstly 36V cordless drills tend to be quite expensive so if you really don't need the extra power then why spend the extra cash? Also 36V models are usually pretty bulky heavy designs and can lead to fatigue for the user when operating for longer periods.
